WANTED: Hungry software developers for potential new company
I have about 15 years of experience in tech support, QA and web development. I have worked locally for some enterprise software companies which have come and gone. You know the cycle - BOOM, BUST, BANKRUPTCY, BUYOUT. The CEO walks away with a golden parachute and you walk away with "2 weeks". Anyone who has been around for a while with some real world experience has probably experienced the same. Aren't you sick of it?
Have you ever been given the task of training some guys from "the other office" who you know are going to be taking your job soon? I have watched my jobs go to other states and other countries because they worked for cheaper. You know, "BUSINESS AS USUAL."
I like the work, but hate the business. Sound like anyone else you know?
I have a few ideas for web-based, hosted apps that would require customers to purchase a monthly description. They are nothing too earth-shattering or complex, but there is a need for them in the market. The fact that there is an established market and competitors tells me that people are looking for these applications. You can be another player in the space if you have something new to bring. I believe we can excel in quality, support, pricing and value.
We don't need the overhead, formailty and expenses of a major company if we approach the products correctly from the ground up. The beauty of an Internet software company is that it does not take that much money to get started. What it takes is skill, experience, passion, and dedication. Development tools, web hosting, servers and workstation computers have become very affordable.
The language of choice doesn't matter much to me. You may prefer .NET, PHP, Ruby, ASP, Python... they all have their benefits and shortcomings, and in the end, they all really do the same thing. Ideally, you should have experience with web application development, web hosting, pay per click, ecommerce and affiliate marketing.
I don't expect to become the next Microsoft, nor do I want to. But I do believe we can put together a company that brings in recurring montly hosted revenue with some basic, quality, in-demand applications.
Personally, I am more of a dabbler than a hardcore developer. I have an intermediate knowledge of most of the modern web development technologies. "Jack of all trades but master of none" sums it up. I can read it and modify it better than I can write it. I excel in troubleshooting, debugging, testing, usability and support.
I need a few guys that can architect and churn out high quality code fairly quickly. I am reaching out to hardcore developers that are looking for some new projects to get their creative juices flowing.
I have a few others guys who I can recruit for testing, support and documentation if our projects get off the ground.
I am the type of person that can work just fine on my own but I prefer to bounce ideas off a couple of people so the requirements are tight and the concept is well thought out, ripped apart and re-assembled. I work best when I am doing a few things at once - coding in one window, IMing in another...
My original intention was to try and get something off the ground with a few guys I worked with previously. They are busy with their dayjobs and families and just can't commit to much at the moment. They are sick of where they work but they are comfortable at the same time. They don't really NEED to branch out and do their own thing. This just frustrates me since I know there are some other starving software guys out there that need to know they are NOT alone and just need a push to get rolling.
Of course, this would not be a paid position for any of us. It is as "startup" as you can imagine. Just a few guys with some passion, ideas, desire, and the NEED to succeed.

I am serious. You should be too. Let's make something happen.
